Importance of Setting Goals
Setting goals isn’t the problem. Understanding them is.
Most people already know they should set goals.
They’ve heard it before.
They’ve written them down.
They’ve even started working towards them.
Yet, somewhere along the way… they lose direction.
Why most goals don’t work
From what I’ve observed over the years, the issue is not a lack of ambition.
It’s a lack of clarity.
People often set goals based on:
- What others are doing
- What feels expected
- What looks “right” on the surface
But rarely ask:
👉 Is this something I actually want?
The difference between being busy and being aligned
Goals give direction — that much is true.
But direction without alignment leads to frustration.
You can be:
- Working hard
- Staying disciplined
- Making progress
And still feel like something is missing.
Because progress and fulfillment are not always the same thing.
My perspective on goal setting
Over time, I’ve come to see goals differently.
It’s not just about:
- Setting targets
- Chasing outcomes
- Reaching milestones
It’s about:
👉 Understanding why the goal matters in the first place
Because when the “why” is clear:
- Motivation becomes natural
- Discipline becomes easier
- Progress becomes meaningful
A more practical way to think about goals
Instead of asking:
👉 What should I achieve next?
Try asking:
- What kind of life am I building?
- What direction am I moving in?
- Does this goal align with who I want to become?
This simple shift changes everything.
The role of perspective
Sometimes, the challenge is not effort.
It’s perspective.
You don’t always need:
- More motivation
- More strategies
- More information
Sometimes, you just need to see things differently.
If this resonates
If you’ve ever felt:
- Busy, but not clear
- Progressing, but not fulfilled
- Focused, but unsure about direction
You’re not alone.
And sometimes, a simple conversation can bring that clarity.
